An HPAC review of its Competition polices respecting Events would be timely. 1580

Aerobatics: See: http://www.acroparaglidingevents.com/

The Invermere BC Lakeside Event includes an aerobatic contest for Paraglider pilots above Lake Windermere.

CYA 122 (A)(H) in Lumby is Designated Special Use Airspace for Aerobatics and Hang Gliding.
There are many more in Canada, quite a few of which are over water.

The FAI Hang Gliding and Paragliding Commission (CIVL) has established an Aerobatics Sub-Committee.

It is an attractive way to present the sport and since aerobatics competitions are commonly held in populated areas.

The FAI's Aerobatics Commission has documents for reference.

Paragliding Accuracy, like Aerobatics, is an effective means of promoting our sport to the general public.

I hope PG accuracy events become as popular in Canada. Lots of pilots are into fun, educational competitions, but the vast majority of pilots are not XC fanatics.

I've looked into that. It would be fun. Getting auto-measuring target is tricky. They are in Europe but I couldn't find one around here to borrow/rent.

Standard equipment in a Paragliding Accuracy competition is an electronic target pad: a pressure sensitive device measuring 30cm in diameter.
The point of firmest pressure is measured and displayed, from 0 to 15cm. Around the pad, circles are market out at 0.5m, 5m and 10m.
Landings made off the pad are marked by ‘fichet’ Judges and are measured manually.
One of the first lessons that Accuracy pilots learn is to fly your foot to the dead centre, not your eye! It is easy to undershoot or overshoot.

The same equipment is used in Parachuting Accuracy - could they be rented from them? Pacific Skydivers and the Drop Zone have one.
Other sources may include: The Canadian Sport Parachuting Association (CSPA)

If not, perhaps the HPAC or our Provincial association(s) could purchase some auto-measuring targets for use by event organizers.

I am envious of Paragliding for two decades of successful SIV Clinics and the resulting improvements to safety in the sport.
BHPA SIV Course Information Sheet (PDF)

Hang Gliding Advanced Maneuvers Courses might prove popular to a lot of pilots.
I would really appreciate a confidence builder like that when things get dicey.
35 years in and I am still too chicken to do wing overs.

Prerequisite would be having established aerobatics training schools, experienced instructors and a support system in place.

If we can't revive the event scene in Canada, we are doing nothing but shooting ourselves in the foot. Period.
