Update on Canadian Records .... more-so the system...
First off, I need to apologize to many of you out there...over the past few years a number of pilots have made record claims that have never been verified.
Mainly because we didn't have an updated list and a reasonable way to submit claims.
It's a very poor excuse since Vincene did them by hand for years (and years).
We are making great head-way to getting back on track.
And I say 'we' as Stewart Midwinter has been doing a lot of the grunt work.
I've lost touch with him over the past few years but we've been talking lately and it's great to hear about his vast experience and passion about records.
1) Stewart has gone through the Spreadsheet of Records and has made it into a Google Sheet.
He has clarified the classifications and then created standardized sheets/tabs to make all the classes have the same formatted sheet
- see the bottom of the tabs on the new Official Sheet at: https://goo.gl/q0Mrpr
2) We have a new Google Form ( https://goo.gl/U3AKnY ) to enter both Record Pre-Declarations AND Record Claims (post flight).
We need to do some testing and surely some tweaking and we are now soliciting those of you from the past few years
that have SUBMITTED record claims via email that aren't currently on the Official sheet as verified.
I know folks like Rob, Brett, Nicole and Michael Shulte have outstanding claims.
Please fill in the form to the best of your ability as that feeds into the "Submission Log" tab on the main sheet and will be our collaborative list to work on proper verification/ratification.
Please don't email us any additional info until you have filled out that form.
3) Last year the FAI has created new "Free" categories for records - in a nutshell, less/no pre-declarations. We are behind on awarding those o if you have any Canada XContest http://www.hpac.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=741 submissions that you think qualify for a record in any of those
categories (which are listed on the first tab of the above mentioned Google Sheet), please submit using the Form mentioned above as well.
In order for them to be recognized as a record, they have to at least surpass any existing record for the equivalent non-Free category.
So dig into your Canada XContest submissions and see what qualifies (remember that FAI triangles need to be 100% closed).
We are giving you 30-days to submit at least Preliminary claims for these late "Free" record submissions (flights must be no earlier than May 1 2015).
Submit the form now and then if you have further info to dig up to prove it, you have until Oct 31 to finish the submission (just fill in the form again).
Please spread this news to all your email lists and forums to help round up rogue submissions.
